Kinda Chic things that made Postpartum easier

Postpartum is a beautiful and transformative season, but it can also feel demanding and exhausting. You're bonding with your baby, recovering physically and mentally, adjusting to a completely new routine, juggling other responsibilities, and amongst all that, you are figuring out who you are as a mum.

Then there's the admin, the to-do list that can feel urgent, the expectations from family and friends that can feel like pressure: welcome visitors, keep the house together, respond to everyone's messages, enjoy every moment, and somehow try to rest.

Postpartum should be gentle

For me, that means listening to your body, setting boundaries and protecting your space, accepting help and support from your community, and doing motherhood in a way that works for you. Figuring out who you are now, whilst learning to care for your baby is a process, and some moments can feel hard.

Making postpartum easier

In the spirit of 'Kinda Chic,' here are some little things that can make those early days and months of motherhood feel a little easier, more manageable, and a lot more like your own.

  1. Kinda chic to set boundaries with visitors and only have people over when you're ready.

  2. Kinda chic to listen to your body and take things at your own pace, because you're recovering too.

  3. Kinda chic to give yourself grace because postpartum is exhausting.

  4. Kinda chic to not feel guilty about asking for help.

  5. Kinda chic to lean on your community and surround yourself with people who care about you.

  6. Kinda chic to do things that make you feel like you.

  7. Kinda chic to do motherhood your way while you figure it out along the way.

  8. Kinda chic to soak up every moment and every cuddle because they're only this small for a little while.

  9. Kinda chic to match outfits with your baby, because twinning is always a vibe.

  10. Kinda chic to make memories that are meaningful for you and your family.

How to make postpartum your own

This season should be yours, not measured against anyone else's timeline or expectations. It's easier to navigate postpartum when you've given yourself space to think about what you want your postpartum to look like before baby comes. Some questions I asked: When would I like to have visitors? Who's on my list to call when I need a meal, or just an hour to myself? Who can I text when I have a baby-related question? What does self-care look like for me in this next season? What makes me feel like myself?

My journal makes space for this while you are still expecting. It encourages you to pray through what you'd like this season to look like, to bring your requests to God, and to reflect on the kind of support you want to ask for. After you have laboured, God invites you to come to Him and receive the rest He so freely gives (Matthew 11:28). You are not alone in postpartum.

Yes, postpartum will surprise you, but you'll meet it having already thought about it and prayed about it.

Motherhood is a new beginning
